Privacy Policy

NomadBudget (the "App") is a travel expense and budget tracker for digital nomads, built by Mango Lab ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what happens to your information when you use the App.
The short version: NomadBudget has no accounts and no signup. We operate no server and no database, and your expense data is never sent to us. Your trips and expenses are stored in a local database on your iPhone and, by default, synced to your own private iCloud database — an Apple service under your Apple ID that we cannot see into. Three named third parties — Apple, RevenueCat, and Google — are involved, as described below. Only Apple ever handles your expense data, and only to store it in your own iCloud account on your behalf.
We want to be precise rather than flattering here: it would be easy to write "we collect no data at all," and it would not be true. The sections below describe exactly what is stored, what leaves your device, and who else is involved.
If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the App.
Data Stored on Your Device
All of the following is written to a local SwiftData store on your iPhone, and — if you are signed in to iCloud — mirrored into your own private iCloud database as described under iCloud Sync below. It is not transmitted to us, and we have no ability to see it:
★ Trips: trip name, countries, currencies, dates, and an optional cover photo.
★ Expenses: amount, currency, category, payment method, note, date, and an optional receipt photo.
★ Spending categories that you create or customize.
★ Preferences: your home currency and whether premium is unlocked.
The App does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other identifier that could be used to contact you. There is no user profile, because there are no user accounts.
Camera and Photo Library
NomadBudget asks for camera and photo library permission for exactly one purpose: so that you can attach a receipt photo to an expense, or a cover photo to a trip. iOS will ask for your permission before either is accessed, and you may decline — the rest of the App works normally without it.
Images you attach are stored alongside the expense or trip, which means they are held on your device and, if iCloud sync is on, in your own private iCloud database. They are never uploaded to us, and we never see them.
iCloud Sync
NomadBudget syncs your trips and expenses through Apple CloudKit into your own private iCloud database. This applies to every user, free and premium alike, and is enabled by default whenever you are signed in to iCloud on your device.
This is Apple infrastructure, tied to your Apple ID and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. The data lives in your iCloud account, not ours. It is not sent to a Mango Lab server, because we do not operate one.
We cannot read, access, or recover data stored in your private iCloud database. Neither can we restore it for you if it is lost. Apple does not grant developers access to a user's private database.
You can stop sync at any time by turning off iCloud for NomadBudget in iOS Settings → your Apple ID → iCloud, or by signing out of iCloud. If you do, the App keeps working and your data stays on your device only.
In-App Purchases
NomadBudget offers a single one-time purchase, Lifetime Premium ($19.99). The free tier allows up to 10 expense entries; premium unlocks unlimited entries. iCloud sync is included for everyone and is not a premium feature.
Payment is processed entirely by Apple. The App never sees or handles your card details.
We use RevenueCat to validate purchase receipts and to check whether your device is entitled to premium features. RevenueCat is a data processor acting on our behalf. It receives:
a) an anonymous, app-generated user ID (not linked to your name or email)
b) purchase and transaction data from Apple
c) basic device and app information, such as device model and app version
RevenueCat does not receive your expenses, trips, notes, photos, or any other content you enter into the App.
Because purchase and usage data are processed on our behalf, Apple's App Privacy label for NomadBudget declares Purchases, Identifiers, and Usage Data as data types collected by us or our processors. We consider this the honest disclosure even though we operate no server ourselves.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how many people use NomadBudget, how often they open it, and roughly which countries they are in. This is how we decide what to build next.
Firebase receives:
a) an identifier for your installation of the App (an app instance ID), which is reset if you delete and reinstall the App
b) your device model, operating system version, and app version
c) a standard set of events that the Firebase SDK collects automatically, including when you first open the App, when a session starts, which screens you view, when the App is updated, and when an in-app purchase is completed
d) your IP address, which Google processes in order to estimate your approximate location at country level
We log no custom analytics events of our own. Your expense amounts, notes, categories, trip names, currencies, and photos are never sent to Google or to anyone else. The screen names in item (c) describe which parts of the App you opened, not what you entered into them.
We use the build of the Firebase SDK that does not collect Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA). NomadBudget does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, does not show ads, and does not sell your information.
This analytics collection is a standard part of the App and cannot currently be turned off from within it. If you would prefer not to be included, you may stop using the App and delete it. Data handled by Google is subject to Firebase's privacy documentation.
Network Requests
The App makes only four kinds of network request, and no others:
a) Exchange rates. The App downloads a static rates file from minhoko.github.io at most once every 24 hours. No user data is included in this request. As with any request to any web server, GitHub Pages receives your device's IP address as part of delivering the file.
b) RevenueCat's API, for purchase validation and entitlement checks, as described above.
c) Google's Firebase Analytics endpoints, which receive the app usage data described in the Analytics section above.
d) Apple CloudKit, which carries your trips and expenses to and from your own private iCloud database, as described in the iCloud Sync section above. This is the only request that includes your expense data, and it goes to your Apple account rather than to any server of ours.
The App does not contact any other server. Your expense data is never included in requests (a), (b), or (c).
What We Do Not Do
NomadBudget contains no advertising and no cross-app tracking SDK. We do not serve ads, we do not collect Apple's advertising identifier, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. There is no crash reporting service and no cookies in the App.
We do use one analytics service, Google Analytics for Firebase, strictly for the aggregate usage measurement described above. We do not sell, rent, or share your information.
No expense data — no amount, note, category, trip name, currency, or photo — is ever transmitted to us, to RevenueCat, or to Google. The single exception is Apple CloudKit, which stores that data in your own private iCloud database on your behalf, where it remains inaccessible to us.
Exporting Your Data
You can export all of your expenses to a CSV file and share it through the standard iOS share sheet. Where that file goes — Mail, Files, another app, or a cloud service — is entirely your choice, and is then governed by whichever service you chose. We receive no copy of it and are not involved in the transfer.
Data Retention and Deletion
★ Local data: Deleting the App from your iPhone removes all of its local data, including trips, expenses, and attached photos.
★ iCloud data: Deleting the App does not by itself remove data already synced to iCloud. That data is managed by you through iOS Settings → your Apple ID → iCloud, where you can remove NomadBudget's iCloud storage. Because the database is private to your Apple ID, we cannot delete it for you.
★ Our systems: We hold no expense data of yours, so there is nothing on our side to delete and no deletion request is necessary for it.
★ Analytics: Deleting the App resets the app instance ID that Firebase uses, so a reinstall is not linked to your previous usage. Analytics data already collected is retained by Google according to the retention period configured for our Firebase project, after which it is deleted automatically. To request earlier deletion of the analytics records tied to your installation, email us at minoerick120@gmail.com.
★ RevenueCat: Purchase records held by RevenueCat are the one exception. RevenueCat honors deletion requests for the anonymous ID and purchase data associated with your installation. Email us at minoerick120@gmail.com and we will submit the request on your behalf. Note that deleting these records may prevent you from restoring your purchase, and that Apple separately retains its own record of the transaction.
Children's Privacy
NomadBudget is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Since the App requires no account and collects no identifying information, we have no means of determining a user's age.
Third Party Providers
Three third parties are involved in the operation of the App.
• Apple: Apple processes your purchase of Lifetime Premium through the App Store, and stores your synced trips and expenses in your own private iCloud database via CloudKit. Your relationship for this data is with Apple, under your Apple ID. We have no access to it.
• RevenueCat: RevenueCat validates purchase receipts and manages entitlements. It receives an anonymous app-user ID, purchase and transaction data, and basic device information. It does not receive any expense data. RevenueCat acts as a processor on our behalf and honors data deletion requests.
• Google (Analytics for Firebase): Google processes aggregate usage measurement on our behalf: an app installation identifier, device and app version information, automatically-collected session and screen events, and your IP address for country-level location. It does not receive any expense data.
• GitHub Pages: Not a processor of your personal data, but worth naming for completeness: the App downloads a static exchange-rate file hosted there, and GitHub receives the request IP as any web server would.
Links to Other Sites
The App may contain links to sites we do not operate, such as the App Store for reviews or your email client to contact support. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content or privacy practices of any third-party site. We encourage you to review their policies.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
